Cheap and Free Wedding Locations

For a small weekday wedding there is a wide range of free places you can hold the ceremony. Virtually any public area can be used when there are only a handful of people involved in the wedding. The more popular parks and botanic gardens include designated wedding sites, often with rotundas and power available, which may be booked for two hours. This is advisable and necessary at the weekend, on Fridays, or on public holidays.

To book a designated site in a Brisbane park attracts a fee . Park bookings in surrounding local council areas may be free or they may require a refundable bond, or there may be a fee, depending on the council.

However, if there are just a few of you, there are many parks that do not have designated wedding sites that you can use without making a formal booking. You can gather in these parks in much the same way you would if you were having a picnic, because the spaces within the park work on a first-come, first-served basis, and you can't move people on if they are already in the space. Many of the smaller parks have no toilets, but  if there are just a few of you and no children it won't matter and the plus side is that you are unlikely to have to compete with a large group intent on staying all day.
You could also choose your own backyard, a safe option because, should it rain, you just move the ceremony inside.

If you are a visitor to Brisbane another option is your hotel room or other space within the hotel. Many local hotel rooms include a balcony.  While hotels that provide wedding reception services usually charge a considerable fee (at least double the cost of the fee for use of a designated site in a public space) for use of the ceremony area, and that use is often contingent on booking a reception with a minimum catering spend, guests at the hotel who do not require any ceremony space set-up, can usually just gather in the garden or other space for a simple ceremony.
We did not want any fuss and wanted a warm ceremony. You created both of these for us. We loved your ideas about including the children and small surprises on the day, eg copy of our vows and photo of rings on shells. Your sensitive humour made us feel relaxed. - Don and Jenny, who came from the UK to be married on the beach during a family holiday

It was all very relaxed and although we had never actually met before you made us all feel very at ease. it was fun but with the serious element where necessary. You did a brilliant job. You gave an extremely personal service, tried very hard - and succeeded - to find us the right tree! Dealing with paperwork was clear and given the proper amount of solemnity. Thanks again for helping to make it such a lovely memory for us.
- Pam and Ken who came from the Orkney Islands of the north coast of Scotland with the request that they be married under the largest tree possible. A fig tree was the logical choice.

Dear Jennifer, Thank you very much!
Now we continue our holiday in Australia. Best regards - Alexander and Kristina, who married surrounded by Kangaroos the day after they arrived in Australia from Sweden. They surprised family and friends back home with a very cuddly wedding  announcement sent by email

Our Warm and Wonderful Weekday Wedding with Jenny far surpassed what we were expecting. When we decided to “elope” whilst on holiday in Australia, we had thought we would be having a fairly dry ceremony in a registry office but Jenny’s service meant that what we had was very much different from those expectations. As we were organising our wedding from overseas, Jenny’s professionalism and attention to detail was key. Jenny helped us choose our venue and provided us with internet links and photos of some of the places available. She gave us step by step guidance regarding all the Australian legal requirements and her prompt and complete communication was excellent, removing any worry at our end.  She anticipated our questions making the process as easy as if we were in Brisbane!  As we were unfamiliar with Brisbane, we particularly appreciated her thoughtfulness and “thinking for us” by leading us through the process to enable us to collect our official certificate from the Registry Office in Brisbane, rather than us having to wait for it to be posted out.  We were both very moved by the ceremony itself and it was Jenny’s small, personalised touches that really made it so special for us. We would very strongly recommend Jenny to anyone looking for a celebrant!-
